Maldini Italian Café Restaurant – background
Maldini Italian Café Restaurant has operated at Hobart’s famed Salamanca Place since 1996.
The family
The owners and operators of Maldini Café Restaurant are Bruno Di Tommaso, his son Dante, and Luciano Tiberio. Head chef Victoria Hardwick is married to Luciano. This is a family business built on friendly service, lasting relationships, close-bonded teamwork and, most of all, outstanding Italian food prepared from the freshest Tasmanian ingredients.
The Di Tommaso and Tiberio families migrated to Australia from the Abruzzo region, on the Adriatic coast in southern Italy – an area known for its grapes and olives, and with a strong culture of hearty home cooking. Food and wine are in their blood.
Bruno Di Tommaso, the senior partner at Maldini Café Restaurant, has been in the hospitality industry for more than 30 years. Luciano Tiberio has spent a lifetime in customer service and 10 years as a restauranteur. Dante Di Tommaso has been in the business for six years.
Head chef Victoria Hardwick-Tiberio, who oversees a team of qualified chefs, completed her training in Launceston and Hobart. “Mum got me started cooking,” she says. “I absolutely love it.”
“Food gets people talking,” says Bruno. “We want your experience at Maldini’s to be memorable for fine food and the happiest of times.”
The site
Maldini Italian Café Restaurant occupies what might be the premier site in Hobart – an historic convict-built warehouse on Salamanca Place, facing north to the waterfront, steeped in history and central to the arts precinct.
Small wonder that diners over the years have included Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark and his wife, Tasmanian-born Crown Princess Mary, and many actors, musicians, sports stars, television and media personalities, and assorted celebrities. The staff at Maldini’s has enjoyed serving them all.
The owners and staff look forward to being your hosts, whether it be for a leisurely coffee, a sundowner drink, a light lunch or a never-to-be-forgotten dinner.
